What Are the Differences Between 25G SFP28 SR and 25G SFP28 LR

The 25G SFP28 optical moduleis simply an optical module with a transmission rate of 25Gbps, mainly used in 25G Ethernet and 100G (4x25Gbps) Ethernet, which can meet the growing demand of data centers in the most energy-saving way. Therefore, when there is a problem of high cost in optical modules such as 40G and 100G, 25G SFP28 optical modules have become a good solution. In this article, Walsun will analyze the 25G SFP28 SR and SFP28 LR optical modules and their differences.

The SFP28 optical module has the advantages of low power consumption, high port density, and saving network deployment costs. It can achieve 100Gb data transmission through 25Gb/s single channel physical layer technology. Relatively speaking, the optimal input or output performance and fiber capacity of a 25G optical module are 2.5 times that of a 10G optical module. It can achieve a 50G transmission rate through two fiber channels, with lower costs and losses compared to a 40G optical module.

The 25G SFP28 SRand SFP28 LR optical modules both comply with SFP28 MSA, IEEE 802.3cc, 25GBASE-LR Ethernet, and CPRI/eCPRI standards. The materials used comply with RoHS environmental standards (lead-free) and are packaged in hot swappable SFP28 packages, making them a full duplex transceiver integrated module; The maximum speed is up to 25.78Gbps, with dual LC optical ports, a working voltage of 3.3V, and a commercial temperature of 0-70 degrees Celsius. It supports digital diagnostic monitoring DDM function, and the 25G optical module of Walsun is widely compatible with major brand devices such as Huawei, Cisco, H3C, ZTE, Ruijie, Zhanbo, Dell, and Inter, providing cost-effective 25G network solutions.

What Are the Differences Between 25G SFP28 SR and 25G SFP28 LR

Difference:The 25G SFP28 SR optical module operates at a wavelength of 850nm and can transmit up to 70M (OM3) or 100M (OM4) through multimode fiber. It is equipped with a VCSEL laser and PIN photodetector, with a maximum power consumption of less than 1W. The 25G SFP28 SR optical module is suitable for short distance data transmission and can be used in Ethernet switches, routers, network interface cards (NICs), and storage network devices. The working wavelength of the 25G SFP28 LRoptical module is 1310nm, and the transmission distance can reach up to 10KM through single-mode fiber OS2. It is equipped with a DFB laser and PIN photodetector, and the receiving channel is equipped with a built-in CDR circuit, with a maximum power consumption of less than 1.5W. It is mainly suitable for long-distance data transmission and supports communication and interconnection applications.
